Is a Whistler Quartershare Still Worth It?

One of the questions we're asked often is whether buying a quartershare in Whistler is still a good idea. The short answer? For the right buyer, absolutely.

Quartershare ownership has become one of the most accessible and enjoyable ways to own a vacation property in Whistler. Instead of paying for a home that sits empty most of the year, you own the portion of time you're most likely to actually use.

For many of our clients, it's the perfect balance of lifestyle, convenience, and cost.

What Exactly Is a Quartershare?

A quartershare gives you ownership of one-quarter of a property, typically providing one week of use every four weeks on a rotating schedule. You're on title just like any other homeowner, but you share the purchase price and ongoing expenses with three other owners.

Most quartershare properties also offer professional management and optional rental programs, making ownership truly turnkey.

You own real real estate, which means your interest has value and can appreciate over time.

The Quartershare Market in Whistler

Whistler has a very limited number of quartershare developments, which is one of the reasons they remain in steady demand. There are currently four main quartershare buildings in the valley, each with its own personality and advantages:

Evolution
Located in Whistler Creekside, Evolution is one of the most modern quartershare developments in town. Owners love the contemporary suites, outdoor pool, hot tubs, steam room, fitness centre, and easy access to the Creekside Gondola.

A major advantage of Evolution is that it is the only pet-friendly quartershare hotel building in Whistler, making it the natural choice for owners who want to bring their dog along for their mountain getaways.

Legends
Also located in Creekside, Legends offers true ski-in/ski-out convenience right at the base of the gondola. It features spacious suites, strong rental potential, and resort-style amenities including a pool and hot tubs.

Legends is often a great entry point into Whistler ownership, offering excellent value in one of the most convenient locations in town.

Horstman House
Tucked into the Blackcomb Benchlands, Horstman House offers a quieter, more residential feel while still being close to everything. Owners enjoy ski-home access, a heated outdoor pool, hot tub, fitness room, and easy access to Lost Lake and the Valley Trail.

It’s ideal for those who prefer a more peaceful setting just minutes from the village.

Montebello
Montebello offers something a little different. These spacious luxury townhomes are located just a short walk from Whistler Village, combining privacy and space with unbeatable convenience.

With multiple bedrooms, private garages, and full home-style layouts, Montebello feels more like a mountain residence than a condo. It’s a great option for families or groups who want more space to spread out while still being close to the action.

Who Is a Quartershare Best For?

Quartershares tend to work best for:
  • Families who visit Whistler several times a year
  • Skiers and mountain bikers who want a consistent home base
  • Buyers looking for a more affordable way into Whistler ownership
  • Owners who prefer a low-maintenance, lock-and-leave property
  • People who want resort amenities without full-time ownership costs
Many owners are surprised by how often they end up using their property once they own it; having a dedicated home base makes spontaneous trips much easier.

Are Quartershares Still Good Value?

In our opinion, yes.

With the cost of full ownership continuing to rise in Whistler, quartershares remain a compelling option. Buyers can access prime locations, quality amenities, and professionally managed properties at a fraction of the cost of full ownership.

Expenses such as property taxes, strata fees, and utilities are shared, which helps keep carrying costs more predictable and manageable.

Things to Consider Before Buying

While all quartershares share the same ownership structure, each building and even each unit can be quite different. Before buying, it’s important to understand:
  • Rotation schedules and which weeks you’re purchasing
  • Seasonal value of your assigned weeks
  • Monthly ownership costs
  • Rental program details (if applicable)
  • Location and lifestyle fit
  • Pet policies (important for many buyers)
Choosing the right property often comes down to lifestyle more than anything else.

Our Take

We’ve helped many clients purchase quartershares in Whistler, and one thing we hear consistently is how much they enjoy having a place they can just “show up to” without the stress of managing a full-time property.

Whether it's ski weekends in the winter, summer bike trips, or family holidays, quartershare ownership makes Whistler feel more accessible all year round.

If you're curious about whether a quartershare might be right for you, or want help comparing Evolution, Legends, Horstman House, and Montebello, we'd be happy to walk you through the options. Each one offers something slightly different, and finding the right fit makes all the difference.

Sometimes the biggest decision isn’t whether to own in Whistler, it’s which version of Whistler life you want to step into.
